Intellectual Freedom Policy
The Mario Brothers Memorial Public Library believes in the freedom for all citizens to have free access to information. It is the right of every patron of our library to have access to materials for intellectual and recreational use within the boundaries of the United States Judicial System. In an effort to preserve the rights of all library users, the library leaves to each library user the ability to select materials from the collection. The library will at no time remove this choice unless an item is found to have no intellectual or recreational use within the boundaries of the law.
The library adopt the values of the ALA :
Bill of Rights http://www.ala.org/ala/oif/statementspols/statementsif/librarybillrights.htm
Freedom to Read statement

If a patron finds an item that has they feel needs to be evaluated for its intellectual or recreational use, they may fill out our Form for Evaluation of Materials and return it to the Reference Desk at the library, in the section where the item was found.
The subject liaison will be responsible for first reviewing any items that require evaluation. The decision is based on the Library’s published Policies. Each challenge will be handled individually, thus the repeat of any challenge will not factor into the decision process.
If a decision cannot be made about an item, the director of the library should be consulted. Items considered for evaluation, and the decision made will be read bi-monthly in front of the board of directors.
